Catarina Bourgard 8th International Conference on Plasmodium vivax Research 2022

Catarina Bourgard

Dr. Catarina Bourgard completed her Ph.D. studies at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil) in 2019, trying to understand the biology of Plasmodium vivax, the most important and neglected human malaria parasite. After, as a fellow postdoc, she developed target-based drug discovery platforms at the Universities of Gothenburg (UGOT, Sweden) and UNICAMP, involved in a Sweden-Brazil-Cambodia collaborative research, consolidated back in 2017. Her participation in this project draws back to October’16, bridging endemic labs with sequencing and bioinformatics tools. In parallel with P. vivax transcriptomics, she did research into in-silico searches for Plasmodium spp. drug targets and set a target-based system being used on ongoing drug screens, hunting for selectively antimicrobial compounds that might become the new generation of antimalarials (UGOT and UNICAMP).
