Abhijit Sharma
Over 19 years experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry, public health, and non-governmental development sector (NGDO). I have many years of management experience in building and leading clinical research and pharmacovigilance teams as well as spearheading multi-country projects across different geographies including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. I also have hands-on experience in projects that have undergone stringent regulatory inspections from USFDA and CDSCO. Through a program called Clinical Research Advancement Towards Excellence (CReATE), I was involved in the capacity building of several registered ethics committees of the country which involved a series of training, along with the country’s renowned experts from academia and clinical research industry.
Apart from clinical operations, I am also actively involved in providing technical assistance to the governments in national elimination, prevention, and control of neglected tropical diseases such as Leishmaniasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Dengue and Chikungunya, and also Malaria through active case detection, surveillance, coordination meetings, and capacity strengthening. To support the global and national team on strategic planning, I am strongly involved in developing investment opportunities (currently involved in Vivax radical cure) and studies on diagnostic devices (RPA assay for VL and G6PD POC test). I also supported in establishing focused National Pharmacovigilance Centers in Nepal and Bangladesh and later handed them over to the government for sustainability.
I am currently working in PATH since early 2014 under the NTD&M portfolio. I have previous experience working in the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) in a similar portfolio. My earlier association was with research organizations like Max Neeman International and Apothecaries Ltd. However, I started my professional journey with Cipla Ltd., which is a leading pharmaceutical company in India.
As per my academia, I did MBA in pharmaceutical management along with a post-graduation in Clinical Research from the Institute of Clinical Research (India). I did my MD in Alternative Medicine and have graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences with Pharmacology & DDS as my major. I have completed the Six Sigma Green Belt Program, and Project Management for Development Professionals (PMD Pro) Level-1 & 2 certifications. I have professional membership in the Public Health Association (MIPHA) which is a Founder Member of the World Federation of Public Health Association, Geneva, and I am a group member of Leishmaniasis control and elimination in South-East Asia at WHO EZcollab platform.
