Lincoln Timinao
Lincoln is currently a PhD student enrolled at the James Cook University in Australia. His PhD is focused on investigating the infectivity of malarial parasites to Anopheles farauti mosquitoes in Papua New Guinea. He has set up a direct membrane feeding assay where he has successfully infected the lab reared An. farauti mosquitoes with malaria parasites particularly P. vivax parasites. He is also interested in knowing the proportion of asymptomatpic individuals within a community that can still transmit. As part of his PhD he is also doing direct skin feeding on healthy willing volunteers within communities to see if they would transmit malaria parasites. He hopes that the setup for infecting the lab reared An. farauti with P. vivax can be used to test potential transmission blocking vaccines and antimalarials that can inhibit transmission.
